Legal document ‘let husband die with dignity’

Real life case examples often serve as great reminders to advisers and clients alike, the importance of not only Wills & Trusts, but particularly Lasting Powers of Attorney.

There is often the misguided notion that Powers of Attorney are just for the elderly, but there are constantly cases such as the one below which act as a serious reminder that this is not the case.

BRAD VISSER, AND HIS FAMILY: VISSER FAMILY

Brad Visser was just 38, when he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. His wife, Annie, spoke about how important the LPA document was.

She said: “If he couldn’t be a daddy, if he couldn’t go to a rugby match, if he couldn’t provide for his family by working, and if he couldn’t be physically active, he didn’t want to be here.”

She went on to say:

“The POA is a document with far more importance than a will, yet no-one knows of it. That is what I am trying to change,” she said.

“I genuinely think if I didn’t have this piece of paper I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed in the morning.
